How do you listen?
When we hear a Dharma talk or study a sutra, our only job is to remain open. Usually when we hear or read something new, we just compare it to our own ideas. If it is the same, we accept it and say that it is correct. If it is not, we say it is incorrect. In either case, we learn nothing. If we read or listen with an open mind and an open heart, the rain of the Dharma will penetrate the soil of our consciousness.
While reading or listening, don't work too hard. Be like the earth. When the rain comes, the earth only has to open herself up to the rain. Allow the rain of the Dharma to come in and penetrate the seeds that are buried deep in your consciousness. A teacher cannot give you the truth. The truth is already in you. You only need to open yourself - body, mind, and heart - so that his or her teachings will penetrate your own seeds of understanding and enlightenment. if you let the words enter you, the soil and the seeds will do the rest of the work.

Sandra Dodd -sleep and child care
I'm learning and not perfect and never will be...but once I started to become aware of children and the way we treat them as sub humans with little understanding of their limits in their understanding. It all really began to fall into place.
I've read the continuum concept and have had many people who have only read that book put it down.
It's not dealing with modern life.
It's writer had no children
The writer was a diamond hunter
Oh and on
In my new journey into home education I have begun again reading everything I can lay my hands on. The following web site is great...for me kind of like the Sears.
http://www.sandradodd.com/unschooling
Sandra covers so many aspects of life with children (yes she has three if her own).
I love the parts about sleep. Help your children to sleep with love...not fear.
All learning is best done in a fear free environment.
One of the new areas I'm looking at at the moment is food. How we clock food or milk. And also the amount "that's enough" or "one more and no more"
I've started using some of Sandra's ideas with my miss 5.5. She has free access to the pantry. She knows it's there so often does not want a chocolate biscuit when her brother has one.
I put out a bowl of chips for afternoon tea...and she added to that a banana and some nuts.
Sandra does not believe about sugar highs...it's more the excitement of getting the lolly.
She also does not believe in colour issues either...with that one on experimentation I will have to say uh uh.
We used to have the little red sausages at playcentre often and the kids would go nuts. My daughter came to me one day and asked for the skin off (remove the red) and well surprise no more silly ... Her friends followed that idea and now we no longer have silly kids going mad.
Sigh...I've just started this post really but must go hush hour is up and chickens need help
